Antivirus 2009, from the same family as Antivirus 2008 and Doctor Antivirus, is a new rogue anti-spyware application. Antivirus 2009 is installed onto your PC when visiting dubious malicious websites and is advertised through the use of Trojans. Once Antivirus 2009 is installed it will scan your PC reporting numerous fictitious infections. The purpose is to scare you into purchasing the application Antivirus 2009.
An Internet Explorer browser helper object is also installed which shows fabricated alert messages. The message may state that your PC is infected or a box is added to your Google homepage falsely claiming that Google detected an infection on your computer. Your web browser will also be redirected to sites promoting the rogue program Antivirus 2009. Remove the Antivirus 2009 infection as soon as possible.
